Hooking and trying to reel in a 95-pound tarpon is like dragging a ‘49 Buick from the bottom of the ocean. The tarpon is, pound for pound, probably the toughest game fish anywhere. Fighting one is an angler’s dream.

Tarpon abound off the north Caribbean coast of Costa Rica. The man who knows where to find them is Eddie Brown, generally acknowledged to be one of the world’s great tarpon fisherman. Eddie has 30 years’ experience catching these magnificent, courageous fighters, and he’s ready to help you enjoy the sportfishing experience of a lifetime.

Flycostarica.com and Fishcostarica.com have joined Eddie Brown and Casa Mar Lodge to offer a very special five-day, four-night weekday package (fly in on a Monday, fly back on a Friday) that includes international air from the departure city of your choice, one night at the Aurola Holiday Inn in downtown San José (first evening’s dinner not included), round-trip flight to Barra del Colorado, three nights at the world-famous Casa Mar Lodge on the Caribbean coast (meals, snacks and all beverages included; the excellent cooks at the lodge will prepare your catch), and three full days of offshore and inland fishing for tarpon and snook on the Bull Shark with Captain Eddie Brown.

You will spend the three days with Eddie on his comfortable 22-foot Bull Shark, powered by twin Yamaha diesel outboards. He will take you out where the tarpon are, and will show you the best techniques for catching these incredible fish. There are also plenty of tasty snook, jack, wahoo and dolphin in the area.

You can fish and troll the inland waters, or cast from the many ocean beaches in the area. Here’s what we’re looking at:

Day 1 (Monday): International flight to San Jose. You will be met at the airport and transferred to the downtown Aurola Holiday Inn in a comfortable, private A/C van. Overnight at Holiday Inn.

Day 2 (Tuesday): Early morning flight to Barra Colorado. You will be taken by boat to Casa Mar Lodge. After you change clothes and enjoy breakfast, there is a full day’s fishing with Eddie Brown. All meals, snacks and beverages included. Overnight at Casa Mar.

Day 3 (Wednesday): Full day fishing with Eddie Brown. Overnight at Casa Mar.

Day 4 (Thursday): Full day fishing with Eddie Brown. Overnight at Casa Mar

Day 5 (Friday): Early morning breakfast and flight to San José for your flight back home.
